Why choose a Dudley Safe?
For over 60 years, Dudley Safes has been designing and manufacturing high-security safes in the UK. Their Europa range is trusted by homeowners, businesses and commercial organisations looking for certified burglary protection combined with reliable fire resistance.
One of the key advantages of choosing a Dudley Safe is the ability to customise it to your requirements. Unlike many imported safes, Dudley can offer a range of factory-fitted options, including custom RAL paint finishes, deposit facilities, upgraded locking systems and left-hand hinged doors, all with considerably shorter lead times than many bespoke alternatives.
Combined with expert advice and nationwide installation from Lichfield Safe Centre, the Dudley Europa range offers a flexible, British-made security solution built to protect what matters most.
Is the Dudley Europa Grade 5 the right safe for me?
The Dudley Europa Grade 5 range represents one of the highest levels of certified burglary protection available for residential and commercial use.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, each safe is independently tested to the EN1143-1 Grade 5 European security standard and is generally recognised by UK insurers for up to £100,000 cash or £1,000,000 valuables (subject to your insurer's terms and conditions).
Every Grade 5 safe is supplied with dual high-security locks as standard and features an exceptionally robust construction. Their substantial weight and reinforced design provide an outstanding level of physical protection, making them particularly suitable for safeguarding exceptionally valuable collections and high-risk assets.
The Dudley Europa Grade 5 range is regularly chosen by luxury watch collectors, jewellery retailers, bullion investors, high-net-worth homeowners and businesses with demanding insurance requirements.
Typical Uses
The Dudley Europa Grade 5 Safe is commonly chosen to protect:
Luxury watch collections
High-value jewellery
Gold and silver bullion
Investment coins
Family heirlooms
Confidential legal documents
Business cash
Controlled drugs and pharmaceuticals (where appropriate)
High-value commercial assets
Why choose a Grade 5 safe instead of a Grade 4 safe?
Both Grade 4 and Grade 5 safes provide an exceptionally high level of certified burglary protection, but a Grade 5 safe is designed for customers with even greater security and insurance requirements.
A Grade 5 safe is generally recognised for £1,000,000 valuables, compared with £600,000 valuables for a Grade 4 safe (subject to your insurer's terms and conditions), making it an excellent choice for larger or expanding collections.
Like Grade 4 safes, Grade 5 models are supplied with dual high-security locks as standard, offering enhanced access control and additional security.
Grade 5 safes are also among the heaviest in the range. Their exceptional weight and reinforced construction provide increased resistance to attack, making them extremely difficult to remove and helping to deliver the highest level of certified burglary protection.
A Grade 5 safe is commonly chosen for protecting:
High-value jewellery collections
Luxury watch collections
Gold, silver and precious metals
Investment coins
Business cash
Confidential legal documents
Family heirlooms and collectables
If your insurance requirements exceed those of a Grade 4 safe, or you're looking for enhanced protection for higher-value assets, a Grade 5 safe offers increased security, higher insurance recognition and greater peace of mind.
Is this safe suitable for Rolex watches?
Yes. The Dudley Europa Grade 5 Safe is an excellent choice for storing Rolex watches and other luxury brands including Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Breitling, TAG Heuer, Tudor and Cartier.
With an insurance recognition of £1,000,000 for valuables (subject to your insurer's terms and conditions), it is ideal for serious private watch collectors and customers with larger or expanding collections.
If the value of your collection exceeds this amount, our experienced team can recommend a higher security grade safe to meet your insurance requirements.
Will my insurance company accept this safe?
Yes. The Dudley Europa Grade 5 Safe has been independently tested and certified to the EN1143-1 Grade 5 European burglary resistance standard.
It is generally recognised by UK insurers for valuables up to £1,000,000 (or £100,000 cash), although individual insurers may have their own policy conditions and requirements.
If you're unsure which insurance grade is appropriate, our experienced team will be happy to help you choose the right safe before you purchase.
What size safe do I need?
Choosing the right size safe depends on what you want to protect both now and in the future. We always recommend selecting a safe slightly larger than your current requirements, as many customers expand their collections over time.
When choosing the right size safe, consider:
The value and quantity of your valuables.
Whether you need to store A4 documents, passports or property deeds.
Future purchases, such as luxury watches, jewellery or precious metals.
The available space where the safe will be installed.
The Dudley Europa Grade 5 range is available in a variety of sizes to suit both residential and commercial applications. Due to the substantial weight of Grade 5 safes, it's important to consider the proposed installation location. Our experienced team can advise on the most suitable size and arrange professional installation.

Can this safe be installed upstairs?
Due to their substantial weight, Grade 5 high-security safes are not normally suitable for installation via standard staircases.
However, depending on the property and access available, installation may be possible using specialist lifting methods, such as a crane or other mechanical lifting equipment.
Every installation is assessed on an individual basis. Before providing a quotation, our experienced team will carefully review:
The weight and dimensions of the safe
Property access and staircase dimensions
Floor construction and load-bearing capability
Whether specialist lifting equipment or a crane can be safely used
Any other site-specific considerations
Following our assessment, we'll advise whether the installation is feasible and recommend the safest and most appropriate installation method.
If you're considering a Grade 5 safe for an upper-floor location, please contact our team with as much information as possible, including photographs or plans if available, and we'll be happy to discuss your requirements.
Does it have to be bolted down?
Yes. For the safe to achieve its certified security rating, it must be securely fixed to a suitable structural surface in accordance with the manufacturer's installation requirements.
Typically, this will be:
A concrete floor
Another suitable structural base approved by the manufacturer
Due to their substantial weight, Grade 5 safes already provide an exceptional level of physical security. However, correct installation remains essential to achieve the certified burglary rating and may also be required by your insurance company.
Our professional installation team will ensure your safe is installed securely and in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
Is this safe fire resistant?
Yes. The Dudley Europa Grade 5 Safe has been independently tested and certified to provide 45 minutes of fire protection for paper documents, helping to protect important paperwork from both fire and burglary.
This makes it an excellent choice for safeguarding:
Passports
Wills
Property deeds
Business documents
Legal paperwork
Paper records
Certificates and contracts
How long does installation take?
Installation time will depend on the location of the safe and the complexity of the installation.
In most cases, a standard ground floor installation takes approximately 45–60 minutes. Installations involving stairs, specialist lifting equipment or difficult access may take longer.
Our installation team will always discuss access requirements with you before arranging your installation.
Before your delivery, we’ll contact you to arrange a convenient date for your safe to be delivered and installed.
